5. Building Healthcare Decision Trees

This section will teach you how to build a simple healthcare decision tree model with two outcomes - cost and effectiveness. You can follow the steps in each section and when you have finished this chapter you will be able to analyze your model.

The first section will define the problem we are trying to solve. Then through the remaining sections we will go through the three key steps to building a model in TreeAge Pro:

1. Model configuration: Setting up the calculation and formatting.

2. Creating the tree structure: Adding node and branches to describe patient pathways.

3. Entering numeric values: Model values such a probabilities, costs and utilities.

After completing each section there are links for more advanced topics which will show you how to add additional details to your model.
