37. State Transition Diagrams

This section will detail how to build State Transition Diagrams in TreeAge Pro. State transition diagrams can be used the visually represent the health states and transitions in a Markov Process. Once you have created your STD you can convert it into the structure for a Markov Model. State transition diagrams do not support analysis, but Markov Models do.

State transition diagrams can be helpful in providing a simpler representation of the health states and transitions within the model. It can be a good starting point to create a full Markov model and it can also be a good communication tool for an existing Markov model.

This section covers the following:

  • How to create a state transition diagram

  • How to convert a state transition diagram to a Markov model in decision tree format

  • How to convert a Markov model in decision tree format to a state transition diagram

Refer to the Building Markov Models Chapter for more details about building and analyzing Markov models.
